ISO Journey at ANCC
ANCC Earns Prestigious International Certification for Operational Excellence
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), first received certification by the International Standards Organization (ISO) in December 2007, the gold seal of approval issued by one of the highest authorities in global quality management systems (QMS).
In November 2017, ANCC reached another major ISO milestone by becoming the only nursing credentialing organization to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification. ISO 9001:2015 certification recognizes ANCC as an organization that provides the highest level of service and quality both in the U.S. and globally.
ISO as a Value to ANCC
The benefits of ANCC achieving ISO 9001:2015 include better-defined processes that lead to operational efficiency and improved customer satisfaction. Being certified as ISO 9001:2015 heightens ANCC’s reputation and recognition in the market. In the international community, an ISO registered organization demonstrates a strong quality culture of ownership, accountability, and overall improved performance.
What Is ISO 9001?
ISO is the world's largest standards developing organization and is located in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies of 162 countries with over 20,000 international standards. ISO international standards help companies to access new markets, level the playing field for developing countries and facilitate free and fair global trade.
ANCC programs recognized under ISO 9001:2015 include the Accreditation Program for excellence in continuing nursing education, interprofessional education, and residency/fellowship programs; the Certification Program for excellence in certifying advanced practice nurses and nurses in specialty practice; the Magnet Recognition Program® for excellence in nursing practice in healthcare organizations; and the Pathway to Excellence® Program for excellence in a positive practice environment for nursing. All of ANCC's credentialing programs are now ISO certified. ISO 9001:2015 certification is the global standard for assuring stakeholders of an organization's ability to meet or exceed quality-related requirements.
