Tobacco Free Nurses

Project Overview

As the largest group of health care professionals, nurses have tremendous potential to effectively implement smoking cessation interventions and advance tobacco use reduction goals proposed by Healthy People 2020. Nurses must be equipped to assist with smoking cessation, prevent tobacco use, and promote strategies to decrease exposure to second hand smoke.

The American Nurses Association / American Nurses Foundation promotes the mission of Tobacco Free Nurses to the nation’s registered nurses through its constituent associations, members, and organizational affiliates.

If the 4 million working nurses in the U.S. each helped one person per year quit smoking, nurses could greatly increase the U.S. quit rate.
