Summary
These Criteria for the Evaluation of Clinical Nurse Specialist Master’s, Practice Doctorate, and Postgraduate Certificate Educational Programs reflect the requirements necessary to ensure quality CNS education at the master’s, post-graduate, and practice doctorate levels. The document incorporates recommendations from the Consensus Model for APRN Regulation (APRN Consensus Work Group, 2008) and therefore, provides guidance to CNS programs that will need to modify curricula and requirements for clinical practica. This document also provides valuable information to new programs that are being developed. The document reflects the commitment of NACNS and CNS stakeholders to ensure that CNSs are prepared to provide expert and independent care to patients, and to influence nursing practice and system changes to improve patient outcomes.
