Who we are: The Individual Membership Division (IMD) comprised of members in the ANA only membership category of the American Nurses Association (ANA) was established by an amendment to the ANA Bylaws on June 26, 2003. The purpose of the IMD shall be to provide the organizational structure to permit ANA individual members (those who elect to join ANA directly at the national level only) to participate in the governance of the IMD and ANA, as well as in the programmatic work of the ANA as expressed in the ANA Bylaws.

The Individual Member Division (IMD) of the American Nurses Association (ANA) is working to expand the Power of Nurses in a host of arenas. The input of IMD members is critical to the success of those endeavors. Please review the many resources available on the site. Become familiar with the ANA Bylaws (as amended 27 June 2026) and the Operating Policies and Procedures of the IMD. Orient yourself to the work of the IMD Executive Committee and its members. Explore the host of benefits, including discounted ANCC Certification fees, available to members and take advantage of them. Stay up to date on news about ANA and familiarize yourself with the association's official Position Statements. Join IMD in taking part in ANA's Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation and explore other initiatives. Take advantage of ANA's educational offerings, many of which provide continuing professional development (CPD) credits at no cost to members. In short, increase your personal power and expertise.
