The ANA's State Government Affairs program tracks trends in nursing-related legislation in the states. More than 1,000 nursing and healthcare related bills introduced in state legislatures each session are reviewed, including but not limited to nursing scope of practice and workplace issues such as safe staffing; mandatory overtime, safe patient handling and movement, and workplace violence.
Reports are provided including background/overview of the issue and legislation enacted by state. The sources for legislative updates include Statescape Tracking Service and information reported by ANA constituent/state nurses' associations. To communicate with Government Affairs Staff, please write to RNAction@ana.org. For positions specific to state bills, contact the ANA constituent and state nurses associations directly.
Each year, ANA's State Government Affairs program monitors over 1,000 nursing and healthcare related bills across all states, examining priority issues and trends. Sources include StateScape Tracking Service, Lexis-Nexis, and information reported by state nurses' associatons.
Every effort is made to provide comprehensive and accurate legislative summaries, however omissions are possible. Questions should be directed to ANA's Government Affairs program at www.rnaction.org.
