Statement from the American Nurses Association on the Passing of Margaret “Peggy” Doheny, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN

SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Association (ANA) mourns the loss of Margaret “Peggy” Doheny, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN, a dedicated nurse who was known as a lifelong learner and respected educator.

Dr. Doheny was a highly respected nurse educator and leader whose 35 years of service helped shape generations of nurses through her longstanding work with the Kent State University College of Nursing and her contributions to national nursing education standards, including service as an accreditor with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Dr. Doheny pioneered the development of an electronic nursing journal, Online Journal of Issues in Nursing (OJIN), from inception to reality in 2000. Since its inception, OJIN has maintained an authoritative voice in academic publishing for the nursing community.

Dr. Doheny inspired generations of students through her knowledge, mentorship, and leadership. Her recognition as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing reflects the enduring impact of her scholarship, mentorship, and commitment to advancing the profession.

ANA extends sincere condolences to Dr. Doheny’s family, colleagues, students, and all who were influenced by her life and work.
