The American Nurses Association (ANA) congratulates Ernest J. Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN, on being named one of the American Academy of Nursing’s (AAN) 2026 Living Legends, one of the Academy’s highest honors.
This recognition reflects Dr. Grant’s enduring impact on nursing and a career defined by service, clinical expertise, advocacy, and leadership. As a former president of ANA and a continued leader within the nursing profession, Dr. Grant has advanced the visibility, credibility, and influence of nurses on a national and global scale.
“Dr. Grant’s career represents the very best of nursing leadership,” said Jennifer Mensik Kennedy, PhD, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, president of the American Nurses Association. “From his groundbreaking work in burn care and prevention to his steady leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, he has strengthened the profession, improved the standard of care, and underscored the essential role of nurses at the bedside, in public health, and across the healthcare system. His continued commitment to health policy and equity reflects ANA’s mission and advances nursing’s collective commitment to patients, families, and communities. ANA is proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor.”
