The State of the World’s Nursing 2020 Report Underscores the Need for Viable Nursing Workforce

SILVER SPRING, MD - A new report  published by the World Health Organization,The State of the World’s Nursing 2020, provides an in-depth look at the largest component of the health workforce. This statement is attributable to American Nurses Association (ANA) Ernest Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN:

"The World Health Organization’s The State of the World’s Nursing 2020 reporunderscores the need to invest in a viable nursing workforce globally.

If there is one lesson to be learned from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic thus far, it is that we need to accelerate nursing education, promote nurses into leadership positions, and sustain a global nursing workforce to improve health care delivery for all patients and communities. Nurses around the world have displayed courage, ingenuity, leadership and expertise despite insufficient supplies and – in many cases – inconsistent information.

As nurses continue to battle COVID-19, this report takes on greater significance and underscores a renewed sense of urgency. We must increase the investment in nurses in light of the current health crisis and as we plan for the future."
