Initial Applicants

Applying for Magnet Designation

The following information is meant for initial Magnet applicants. If you are an existing Magnet organization, please visit our Magnet Redesignation page.

NOTICE: Organizations submitting their written documentation starting in February 2024 will be required to submit narrative and evidence based on the 2023 Magnet® Application Manual.

Submission Requirements

Applications may be submitted at any time.

Applications will be processed and written documentation submission date confirmed when the following items and documents have all been received by the Magnet Program office:

  1. Online application
  2. Application fee
  3. Supporting documents

100% of Nurse Managers and Nurse Leaders must have a degree in nursing (baccalaureate or graduate degree).

The Nurse Manager and Nurse Leader educational requirement table is submitted as a supporting document at the time of application.

Applications will be processed only if the educational requirement is met.

An updated Nurse Manager and Nurse Leader table will be required when written documentation is submitted.

Final verification will occur during the site visit.

Written documentation is accepted 5 times per year on the first business day of the following months:

    • February
    • April
    • June
    • August
    • October

Dates selected on the application may be changed and other options will be provided by the Magnet Program office.

Recommendations for a Successful Online Application

Submission Process

Step 1
Complete the Online Magnet Application (required). The application establishes your organization's status as a Magnet applicant and collects information to enable the appropriate appraisal team composition and availability.

Step 2
After your online application is submitted, you will receive an invoice from the Magnet Program Office for your Magnet Application Fee with payment instructions.

Step 3
Email the following as attachments to

  • Chief Nursing Officer's curriculum vitae or resume.
  • Current facility organizational chart showing the CNO and nursing's relationship to the entire facility.
  • Current nursing organizational chart. Include all areas where nursing is practiced. 
  • List of the externally managed database(s) used for nurse satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and nurse-sensitive indicators.
  • Institutional review board (IRB) attestation letter.
  • Nurse Leadership Education and Reporting Table [xls]
