Laura Leigh Ferrio Named to American Nurses Foundation Board of Trustees

SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Foundation (the Foundation), the philanthropic arm of the American Nurses Association, has named Laura Leigh Ferrio, MBA, MSN, RN, CRRN, NEA-BC to its Board of Trustees.

“Laura is an accomplished leader who brings valuable experience to our Board,” said Foundation chair Tim Porter-O’Grady, DM, EdD, APRN, FAAN, FACCWS. “As a lifelong champion for nurses, she will help the Foundation meet its mission to transform the nation’s health through the power of nursing.”

Ferrio has spent more than 30 years at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, the global leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation for patients with the most severe, complex conditions. In her current role as Chief Advancement Officer and President of the Keystone Board, she leads philanthropy and development efforts to support translational research and specialized programming.

With philanthropic seed funding, Ferrio co-founded AbilityLab’s LIFE Center, which houses the largest collection of patient education and consumer health resources for people with functional impairments.

Her previous roles at AbilityLab include Chief Nurse Executive and Vice President of Patient Care Services. During her tenure, the hospital achieved Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center multiple times.

Ferrio earned her BSN from Northern Illinois University, and an MBA and MSN from Loyola University Chicago. She is past president of the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders and the Illinois Coalition for Nursing Resources, and a University of Pennsylvania Wharton Nurse Executive fellow.
