SILVER SPRING, MD – Representing the interests of our nation’s more than 4 million registered nurses, the American Nurses Association (ANA) reiterated its strong opposition to the American Health Care Act (AHCA) today, following the updated score from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). ANA urges the U.S. Senate to adopt a more transparent process that expands access to affordable quality care.

“The CBO report simply confirms what we’ve known all along. The AHCA is bad for America’s health and is a step in the wrong direction,” said ANA Executive Director Debbie Dawson Hatmaker, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Nurses oppose AHCA. It is departure from ANA’s priorities. We continue to express serious concerns about its failure to make health care more affordable and about the 23 million people who stand to lose insurance coverage.”

Nurses are at the forefront of improving the health of our nation. As the nation’s most honest and ethical profession and largest group of health care professionals, nurses understand the importance of health coverage. ANA urges the Senate to include nurses in the conversation to effectively improve health care delivery, coverage, and affordability for the American people.
