Gregory A. Adams Named to American Nurses Foundation Board of Trustees

SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Foundation (the Foundation), the philanthropic arm of the American Nurses Association (ANA), has named Gregory A. Adams, executive vice president and group president for Kaiser Permanente, to its Board of Trustees.

“Greg is one of the best strategic thinkers in health care today,” said the Foundation’s Chair Tim Porter-O’Grady, DM, EdD, APRN, FAAN, FACCWS. “He will make an indelible contribution to our ability to improve health in this country.”

Adams has direct responsibility for all seven Kaiser Permanente Regions, serving more than 10 million members. His duties include co-leading Enterprise Shared Services to serve the operational needs of the regions and leading Kaiser Permanente’s national Medicare care delivery strategy. He also has responsibility for the organization’s partnership with the National Basketball Association, the first-ever health care partnership with the NBA.

Collectively, Adams has 30 years of leadership experience as a senior health care executive and strategic consultant. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Adams held several executive roles in the health care industry, providing strategic and operational leadership for hospitals, health systems and medical groups throughout the country. He was senior vice president of Strategy and Business Development for Catholic Healthcare West in Southern California; president and CEO of St. Bernadine Medical Center in San Bernardino, Calif.; chief operating officer for Baptist Healthcare System of Southeast Texas; and director of Critical Care Services for the Mayo Clinic’s St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He also owned a health care firm that provided strategic and operational improvement consulting for health care organizations.

In addition to his role with Kaiser Permanente, Adams serves on the Board of Directors for the California Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council and the National Association of Health Services Executives.

A graduate of Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Adams also holds a master’s degree in nursing administration from Wichita State University. Additionally, he speaks regularly on issues related to management, leadership and health care delivery, and financing.
