COVID-19 Survey Series Results
The American Nurses Foundation and the American Nurses Association launched a series of surveys to nurses at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. All data gathered will be used to inform decisions about how to best support nurses during and after this public health crisis.
Year One COVID-19 Impact Assessment Survey
Following a series of seven surveys in 2020, the American Nurses Foundation conducted this comprehensive survey to learn more about the overall mental health and well-being, financial, and professional impact of the pandemic on U.S. nurses. 22,316 nurses responded to this survey between January 19 and February 16, 2021.

Mental Health and Wellness Survey 2
As a follow up to the American Nurses Foundation’s first Mental Health and Wellness survey completed in the Spring of 2020, the American Nurses Foundation conducted a second survey of 12,881 nurses between December 4-30, 2020. This survey examined the ongoing impact the pandemic is having on the mental well-being of nurses. It found nurses’ feelings of exhaustion, being overwhelmed, anxious, and irritable all intensified since the spring. View full survey data.

COVID-19 Vaccine Survey
The fourth survey in the American Nurses Foundation Pulse on the Nation’s Nurses COVID-19 Survey Series explored nurses’ knowledge of and attitude toward COVID-19 vaccine development. From October 1-14, 2020, 12,939 nurses responded to the survey.
Please note, these responses reflect nurses’ perspectives prior to the FDA’s approval of the first COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020. The Foundation’s latest survey, Year One COVID-19 Impact Assessment, has newer survey data on nurses and COVID-19 vaccinations.

Innovation Survey
The third survey in the American Nurses Foundation’s COVID-19 Survey Series focused on innovation. Between September 5 and October 2, 2020, 4,688 nurses shared information on how their resourcefulness and creativity is helping identify new ways to care for patients. Learn more.

Financial Impact Survey
The second survey in the American Nurses Foundation’s COVID-19 Survey Series focused the financial hardships nurses are experiencing due to the pandemic. Between July 9 – August 1, 2020, 10,099 nurses shared information on the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
These findings are a resource to help promote the pandemic’s financial impact on nurses, inform the media, and brief researchers and policymakers. Personal Protective Equipment Survey #2
This survey on Personal Protective Equipment is the second one fielded following the first PPE survey ANA conducted in May. Between July 24 and August 14, 23,207 nurses provided an updated picture of the PPE situation on the frontlines of the pandemic.
ANA Personal Protective Equipment Survey - May 2020
ANA conducted a survey of nurses across all 50 states and 3 US territories, from May 15-31, to get a clearer picture of the personal protective equipment (PPE) situation on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. This survey highlights continuing PPE shortages across the country as well as PPE reuse and decontamination practices. Learn more.
Mental Health and Wellness Survey 1
The American Nurses Foundation launched the first of the COVID-19 Survey Series with a focus on Mental Health and Wellness to gather insights and experiences of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between March 20 – July 6, 2020, 10,997 nurses shared how the pandemic impacted their mental health and wellness.
These findings are a resource to help promote the pandemic’s impact on nurses, inform the media, and brief researchers and policymakers.

This dashboard can be used to view the results of the COVID-19 Survey, which was shared by the ANA and collected responses from March 20 to April 10, 2020. At the top of the page, you can view the results for the United States as a whole or select a specific state to view. To the left of the state selection menu, the count of responses will change according to the selection. The three buttons to the right of the state selection menu allow you to navigate between survey sections and see the results of different questions related to each of the button topics. Click a button to view the questions corresponding to that topic. The button turns red to indicate that it is the active selection.
