Dr. Adams has over 30 years of experience as a psychiatric advanced practice RN with 18 years directing the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program at Vanderbilt University, where she continues to serve as a faculty scholar mentoring both faculty and students. She is a recognized leader in psychiatric nursing through her service as Past President of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (2014-2016), publications, and her participation in national expert panels to develop PMHNP competencies and NP program criteria. Dr. Adams maintains a private practice and serves as a consultant to a network of community agencies that provide services for patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Nursing.
