The purpose of this course is to explore strategies for nurses to support sexual minority and gender diverse populations and address barriers to quality care.

Key Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the health care disparities experienced by the LGBTQ community.
  • Evaluate practice behaviors impacting quality of care for the LGBTQ community.
  • Integrate the tools and resources available to develop a plan that combats bias and discrimination against LGBTQ communities in the course of their health care.

Tanya Friese

DNP, RN, CNL USN (Ret.)

Friese is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Vice Chair of the Rush University Medical Center’s LGBTQ Health Committee. She has participated in multiple interprofessional research initiatives at Rush to coordinate and improve care for underserved populations as well as integrating material into the university curriculum.
