Discontinuation Notice

ANCC temporarily piloted a CONDITIONAL Authorization to Test (c/ATT) process with the goal of shortening the time from application review to test administration. During the pilot, ANCC has been continuously evaluating and reviewing the ongoing feasibility of this process. As a result of the vast variability of academic programs, which has been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, ANCC made the decision to discontinue this process effective May 22, 2020*.  More specifically, the reasons for this decision include, but are not limited to:

  • Uncertain or changing future program completion dates;
  • Delays in the completion of clinical hours; and
  • Submissions by candidates who have not completed their final didactic course(s)/clinical practicum.

*Your application will only be considered submitted if you receive a confirmation of receipt email notification on or after May 22, 2020.

The standard Eligible to Test (ELG) and traditional Authorization to Test (ATT) pathways remain available to candidates who are able to provide the documents and meet the requirements outlined below.  An ANCC Nurse Registrar will follow up with details, as applicable, within 3 weeks from the date of application submission.  Please be advised that, upon review of the documentation submitted, ANCC reserves the right to withhold an eligibility status or request additional information prior to granting an eligibility status. In addition, final certification may be delayed if questions regarding the accuracy or validity of any documentation submitted to obtain eligibility or authorization to test arise prior to the official granting of certification.

Eligible to test (ELG): status granted to candidates meeting all eligibility requirements, after submission of the following, required documents:

  • Completed ANCC Validation of Education (VOE) form [dated May 2020], attesting to program completion (meaning ALL coursework and clinical hours),
  • Final, official transcripts and/or final, official documentation to reflect completion of your program (received directly from the school or school’s designated transcript delivery service) showing Degree conferred and Conferral Date; AND
  • (if applicable) A Post-Graduate Statement and accompanying Gap Analysis (if you are completing a Post-Graduate Certificate program).

ELG may be granted after review and evaluation of ALL documents.  Upon passing the exam, ANCC will update candidate’s status to CERTIFIED upon receipt of the exam results from Prometric. Due to quality review measures, official test results are posted 3 business days from the time you test.  If you do not pass the examination, the ANCC retest policy is in effect.

Authorization to test (ATT): granted to candidates, meeting all eligibility requirements, after submission of the following, required documents:

  • Completed ANCC Validation of Education (VOE) form [dated May 2020], attesting to program completion (meaning ALL coursework and clinical hours),
  • Unofficial*/official transcripts reflecting program completion (meaning ALL coursework and clinical hours), [*unofficial transcript is defined as a photocopy of a transcript, a comprehensive record of your academic progress or a web print out of all coursework, grades and degree(s) earned or in progress]; AND
  • (if applicable) A Post-Graduate Statement and accompanying Gap Analysis (if you are completing a Post-Graduate Certificate program).

ATT may be granted after review and evaluation of submitted documents listed above.  ATT provides “authorization to test”, which means the official results are not released and the candidate is not considered CERTIFIED until the final, official transcripts are received and reviewed for compliance of all eligibility criteria.  The candidate is responsible for ensuring ANCC receives your final, official transcript(s) and/or final, official documentation to reflect completion of your program directly from the school or school’s designated transcript delivery service showing Degree conferred and Conferral Date.  If you do not pass the examination, the ANCC retest policy is in effect.
