Q: How does the volunteer process work once I submit my application?

A: Your application will be reviewed and if/when there is a need for volunteers that match your skill set and interests, we will contact you. All applicants will receive notification of their eligibility status within several weeks of submitting the application. If you are not selected your name is automatically added to our Volunteer Registry for consideration as other opportunities arise. Q: Can nurses at any level of education, experience, and position be considered for volunteer opportunities?

A: We encourage nurses of every type to apply for volunteer opportunities. It is only by hearing many different voices in the nursing community that we can help to improve the quality of patient care.

In order to qualify to participate, you must spend at least 50% of your professional time engaged in practice in the role, population, and specialty of the certification area to which you are seeking appointment. You must also have an active ANCC certification in your field of practice and hold an unencumbered license to practice.

Q: If I hold multiple ANCC Certifications, which certification would be best to apply for?

A: Please apply for the certification test activity that best reflects your current practice and interest.

Q: Why does ANCC require its volunteers to sign volunteer agreements and conflict of interest forms?

A: ANCC recognizes that our valued volunteers have other personal, business, and professional interests or commitments, some of which may have the potential to create conflicts with the interests of ANCC. These agreements are a vehicle to set expectations and create a common understanding of a volunteer’s obligations. These agreements are intended to protect the interests of ANCC as well as the intellectual property assets it creates for the benefit of its certification holders and the professional and business communities it supports.

Q: Who makes the selections for a volunteer group?

A: An Appointments Committee composed of current Content Expert Panel chairs determines applicants’ eligibility to serve. 

Q: If I am not selected for a specific position, can I be considered for others?

A: Yes. If you are deemed eligible to serve but are not needed at the time of your application, you will be placed in our ANCC Volunteer Registry for future test development activities. As needs for the test development activities arise, you may be contacted by ANCC staff.

Q: What if my interests or credentials change?

A: You can update your application at any time. Be sure to do so any time you have a change in your job duties and particularly if your contact information changes.
