The Voice and Vision of Nursing in Kansas
As the largest and oldest professional nursing organization in the state of Kansas, KSNA represents all registered nurses (RN). KSNA is a Constituent Member Association (CMA) of the American Nurses Association (ANA).
The primary purpose of KSNA is to provide direction and a voice for the profession of nursing and nurses as leaders in healthcare.
The overall purpose of KSNA is to:
- Work for the improvement of health standards and the availability of health care services for all people.
- Foster high standards of nursing.
- Stimulate and promote the professional development of nurses and advance their economic and general welfare.
The functions of KSNA are specified in the bylaws and include the following:
- To promote through appropriate means standards of nursing practice, nursing education and nursing
services as defined by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
- To insure adherence to the code of ethical conduct for nurses established by the ANA.
- To promote legislation and to speak for nurses in regard to legislative action.
- To promote, protect and support the economic and general welfare of nurses.
- To promote continuing professional development of nurses.
- To represent nurses and serve as their state spokesman with allied professional, community, and government groups
and with the public.
- To provide for representation in the ANA House of Delegates.
- To promote relationships with the state student nurses' association.
- To promote recruitment of students for careers in nursing.
- To stimulate and promote research in nursing, to disseminate research findings and to encourage
the utilization of new knowledge as a basis for nursing.
- To assume an active role as consumer advocate in health.
- To analyze, predict and influence new dimensions of health practices and the delivery of health care.
- To uphold the bylaws of ANA.
- Ensure a collective bargaining program for nurses.
