SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Association (ANA) invites individuals, employers, health care professionals, community leaders, nurses and all others to join us in celebrating the significant contributions of the nation’s 4 million registered nurses during National Nurses Week 2019, May 6-12. This year’s tagline, 4 Million Reasons to Celebrate, is a direct nod to nurses sheer numbers and is an open invitation to #ThankaNurse for enriching our lives and the world we live in.

Nurses comprise the largest group of health care professionals in the U.S. and for 17 consecutive years, the public has ranked nursing the most honest and ethical profession. Representing the frontlines in nearly every clinical setting, nurses deliver quality, culturally competent patient care and services to individuals, families, communities, and populations. Nurses’ commitment to solving public health challenges, influencing health policy decisions, joining boards of directors and developing ground-breaking innovation will help to transform health care to focus on health and wellness, in addition to illness.

“Nurses’ role in navigating and addressing an ever-changing and complex health care landscape is undisputable. Our knowledge and experiences as nurses inform our work as researchers, executives, educators and policymakers,” said ANA President Ernest Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Sheer numbers and wide-ranging roles across countless specialties enable us to be a trusted advocate for millions of people from birth to the end of life, and in moments of joy and loss. No matter who you are, you can join us in celebrating the men and women who improve our lives and society every day.”

Nurses, patients, health care organizations, schools and all health care professionals are encouraged to download the National Nurses Week Resource Toolkit, which includes materials to help promote this annual observance and amplify the conversation on social media using the hashtag #NursesWeek.

ANA will host a free webinar entitled Nurses4Us: Elevating the Profession! during National Nurses Week on May 8 at 1 p.m. ET. During the hour-long webinar, Faith Roberts, MSN, RN, director of Magnet, Professional Practice and Parish Nursing at Carle Foundation Hospital and Carle Physician Group and ANA President Dr. Grant will discuss how nurses can grow their professional presence along with ways to participate in Nursing Now - a three-year global campaign to improve health by raising the profile and status of nursing worldwide.

Register to attend the webinar and learn more ways to join the celebration during National Nurses Week 2019.
