Participating hospitals in the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators® (NDNQI®) have achieved national level reduction in two HACs, pressure ulcers and falls. These achievements were presented by ANA's CEO Marla Weston, PhD, RN, with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid's (CMS) Marilyn Tavenner, MHA, RN, in attendance on 4/30/12. Subsequently, Administrator Tavenner informed ANA that these results were also presented by the CMMI Director, Rick Gilfillan MD, to senior staff at the White House in May.

The NDNQI is recognized as a transformational tool which provides actionable unit-level metrics, which are used by interprofessional team members, particularly nurses, to successfully reduce HACs which are sensitive to nursing care. The NDNQI is used in 1,852 hospitals, and in 18,894 units in the United States.
