ANA Principles for Documentation
Professional nurses as a group are especially conscientious about documenting patient care activities. In recent years, however, the documentation burden has increased to the point where nurses report that time spent completing “nursing documentation” comes at the expense of providing direct patient care, compromising the very quality of patient care that documentation is intended to ensure.
The Principles of Documentation address the essential components necessary and recommends ways to analyze documentation methods in order to streamline the process.
