ANA Position Statement - Approved 3/01/10
In order to provide competent and accountable emergency
psychiatric care, hospitals need to provide a consistent practice model
for patient care regardless of facility or time of day. Our collective
goal for the provision of psychiatric and substance use disorder
treatment in the emergency department, is to provide care that meets the
Institute of Medicine’s Six Quality Aims of safe, effective, timely,
efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care.
