Update on OJIN Columns
Here’s an update on OJIN columns! First, we say thank you and goodbye to Barbara Schloman as editor of the Information Resources column. All postings of this column will be archived and still available to readers.
We are excited to introduce Linda Thede as the editor of the newly created Informatics column. Dr. Thede is currently the editor of CIN Plus, a 12 page insert in CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing. She has served as course mentor for informatics for St. Joseph’s College, Excelsior College, and Thomas Edison College. Prior to this she was an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Kent State University where she participated in numerous University Committees studying and implementing computer uses and distance education, taught nursing informatics, and assisted the faculty in the use of technology. She was a cofounder of the Informatics Nurses of Ohio, and served as its first president. She is certified in Informatics and has published a book, Informatics and Nursing, which is in its second edition. She founded the second listserv used in nursing, Gradnrse, which she merged with NurseRes, a listserv that she started with the support of the Midwest Nursing Research Society.
We welcome Dr. Jeanne Sorrell as the new Editor of the Ethics column. Dr. Sorrell is Professor in the School of Nursing, College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University. Her scholarly interests focus on philosophical inquiry, writing across the curriculum, qualitative research, and ethical considerations for patients with chronic illness. Her current research uses interpretive phenomenology to explore ethical concerns in the lived experience of patients and caregivers with Alzheimer's Disease. Findings from the research are presented in a video, Quality Lives: Ethics in the Care of Persons with Alzheimer's, and a play, Six Characters in Search of an Answer, both of which received Sigma Theta Tau International Media Awards.
We thank Dr. Greer Glazer, who continues as Editor of the Legislative column. Dr. Glazer is Dean and Professor of Nursing and Health Sciences at University of Massachusetts Boston.
