Every five years, the Scope and Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing
undergoes a review and revision. This document and its periodic
review is how psychiatric-mental health nursing is able to be designated a
nursing specialty by the American Nurses Association.
The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) and International Society of Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) have posted the draft psychiatric-mental health scope and standards document for public comment. When finalized, this resource will replace the 2007 Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice.
Please use this opportunity to provide the authors with comments and recommendations to make this publication an even better product. Access the draft document and submit comments here. Closing date for submission is Jan. 26, 2013.
