The American Nurses Association
(ANA) President Karen A. Daley, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, joined leaders from eight
other national nurses associations at the 17th International Council of Nurses
(ICN Workforce Forum held September 19-21 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The group made the following recommendations:
- Governments immediately develop and implement effective health workforce
planning, education, training and retention strategies to sustain service
delivery and nursing contribution.
- Budget planning and decision-making be driven by population health care
needs and safe quality care.
- Governments build upon and implement the evidence-based findings relating to
positive practice environments and address the specific roles and
responsibilities of all health sector employers to develop a nursing workforce
capable of consistently meeting established standards of care and the
expectations of the public.
