The American Nurses Association (ANA) is seeking comments on the following new position statement: The Doctor of Nursing Practice: Advancing the Nursing Profession.
The purpose of this statement is to clarify the American Nurses Association recommendation that the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) be recognized as a terminal practice degree to prepare nurses for the complex clinical practice environment. The DNP graduate is prepared to provide the leadership needed to promote practice excellence through evidence-based practice methodology, system leadership, health policy, and interdisciplinary collaboration (AACN 2004). This statement supports the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) as a practice-focused doctorate for advanced registered nursing practice expertise.
