Global climate change increases its threat to human health daily. Increased vector-borne diseases, pulmonary/cardio illnesses, famine, drought, heat-related illnesses and extreme weather events appear inevitable. We, as nurses, need to lead the effort to mitigate the effects of global climate change immediately. An ideal place to start is with the World Health Organization’s (WHO)
World Health Day focusing on Climate Change. This year it falls on
Monday, April 7, 2008. The year
2008 also
marks the
WHO’s sixtieth anniversary.
