American Nurses Foundation Appoints Richard A. Hachten II and
Thomas J. Healy to Board of Trustees
SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Foundation (the Foundation), the charitable and philanthropic arm of the American Nurses Association (ANA), has appointed Richard A. Hachten II, FACHE, and Thomas J. Healy to its Board of Trustees.
“Both Richard and Thomas bring fresh interprofessional perspectives to our work to transform health care through the power of nursing. We look forward to their contributions,” said ANF Chairperson Joyce J. Fitzpatrick, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN, FNAP. “They both bring an immeasurable amount of knowledge and experience to the Foundation board.”
Hachten recently retired from his position as chief executive officer (CEO) of Alegent Creighton Health, a leading not-for-profit, faith-based regional health care system with more than 1,500 physicians and 10,000 employees in Nebraska and Iowa. Under Hachten’s direction, Alegent Creighton Health demonstrated growth in volumes of services, profitability, patient and employee satisfaction and quality outcomes.
Previously, Hachten served as CEO for six years at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif.
Hachten received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and completed his MBA at UCLA. Hachten has participated in many health care organizations, including the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Hospital Association, Nebraska Hospital Association, Hospice House and Mercy Housing Midwest. Hachten has also served as chairman of the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Hospital Association.
Healy is an entrepreneur who has started numerous companies focused on buying, selling and managing real estate in Virginia and Colorado. Previously, he held various positions at Accenture, one of the nation’s top consulting firms, before retiring in 2003 after 23 years. At Accenture, Healy was a managing partner in the Washington, D.C. office. His first 16 years with the company were primarily focused in the consumer packaged goods industry, serving clients such as Mars, Inc., Nabisco, Sweetheart Cups, Proctor- Silex, Bristol-Myer Squibb and Caterair.
Healy received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and his MBA from the University of Maryland. He has served as vice chair of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the University of Maryland’s Business School and is the former chair of the Colonnade Society, a fund raising organization supporting the University of Maryland.
