ANA-PAC ENDORSES BETTY SUTTON

ANA-PAC, political action committee of the American Nurses Association, announces its endorsement of Betty Sutton for Ohio 13th House seat

Silver Spring, MD - ANA-PAC, the Political Action Committee of the American Nurses Association (ANA), has endorsed former Ohio State Representative Betty Sutton (D) in her race to replace Representative Sherrod Brown (D) in the Ohio 13th. ANA and Betty Sutton share the belief that affordable, accessible health care for all Americans is a right, not a privilege.

Betty Sutton, now a labor lawyer, served eight years in the Ohio State House. While there, she was a friend and advocate for healthcare and nursing. She introduced a Patient Protection Bill that would have held insurance companies responsible for delaying treatment covered by a patient’s policy. As a labor lawyer, Sutton has represented numerous nurses in legal cases and therefore is familiar with the battles that our local nurses are faced with and the work they do for the community.

“Betty Sutton is the type of candidate ANA-PAC strives to support,” said ANA President Barbara Blakeney. “Her commitment to health care and nursing will be a tremendous asset in the U.S. Congress.”

Each election cycle ANA-PAC endorses only a small number of individuals who have a proven record of dedication to healthcare and the advancement of nursing. In the 2003-2004 election cycles, ANA-PAC endorsed 99 candidates for federal office.

“ANA-PAC’s endorsement is the highest level of support that we can bestow on a candidate,” stated ANA-PAC Chair JoAnne Penn, MA, RN, BC. “We only endorse those candidates who will prove to be champions for nursing and health care in the U.S. Congress.”

The American Nurses Association (ANA) Political Action Committee, ANA-PAC, was established to promote the improvement of the health care system in the United States by raising funds from CMA (Constituent Member Associations) members and contributing them to support worthy candidates for federal office who have demonstrated their belief in the legislative and regulatory agenda of the ANA.

The American Nurses Association is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.9 million Registered Nurses (RNs) through its 54 constituent member associations. The ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
