What's a Portfolio? Growing Credentialing Innovation

Silver Spring, MD - The Genetics Nursing Credentialing Commission (GNCC) has recently begun to use a new approach to credentialing genetics nurses using portfolios instead of exams. A portfolio is the cumulative record of a professional's accomplishments. Co-published with the International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG), Genetics Nursing Portfolios describes the development of the GNCC credentialing program. The book shows how to assemble and use a portfolio to verify competency in a specialty. To date, the GNCC has found this approach to be a cost-effective and accurate method of credentialing genetics nurses.
This book is an excellent resource for any nursing specialty or health care profession considering the use of portfolios for credentialing. It contains comprehensive references, glossary, cross-referencing guide, narratives (case studies) from sample portfolios, and sample application and evaluator instructions. Although the audience for this book includes educators, clinicians, administrators, and researchers, it is especially helpful for those teaching students about portfolios and any specialty group issuing credentials to nurses.
