Senior Editor

POSITION TITLE: Sr. Editor
DEPARTMENT: Measurement Services, ANCC
GRADE: 11 ($53,275 - $66,594 - $79,913)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs editing of examinations using principles of medical editing, knowledge of clinical terminology; standards of editorial policy; and rules for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, style, and clarity. Changes shall not be made to the content of items. Conducts final editorial review of examinations assembled by the technical editor of the team according to the examination development timelines developed by the supervisor. Reviews and approves the computer-based examinations packaged by the testing vendor according to the vendor test production schedules. Maintains and updates, in collaboration with the CEPs, a list of reference for each examination and acquires the books. Inventories the MS library on an annual basis and maintains the organizational structure of the library in accordance with ANCC MS procedures. Plans and conducts item reference update meetings with the CEP members in accordance with ANCC MS procedures to ensure that the items are referenced to sources listed in the most current CEP-approved reference list. Assists the supervisor in item reclassification meetings of CEP members in accordance with ANCC MS procedures to ensure that each item is properly classified within the examination’s TCO. Prepares item writer assignments based on recent item bank inventories developed by the technical editor. Plans and develops a schedule of ongoing item writing assignments for item writers. Coordinates and guides the development of new items by working directly with the item writers. Coordinates the recruitment and selection of item writers in partnership with the other senior editor. Develops and implements editorial policy and style rules for item editing and examinations in collaboration with the other senior editor as consistent with the American Medical Association’s Manual of Style and orients technical editors on such editorial policy and style rules. Edits and reviews ANCC publications and reports at the request of the director of MS or the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: RN and Master’s degree in nursing or master's degree in social sciences or a closely related field with a Bachelors degree in nursing, required. Excellent communication and computer skills, both verbal and written; ability to organize, manage and complete multiple ongoing projects and tasks; and ability to lead and conduct group meetings are required. Two years of editorial experience and three years of experience as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist are required. Experience and/or training in library research or literature review, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management is required. Experience in providing training in a classroom setting desired.
