SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Association (ANA) announces its strong support and endorsement of bipartisan, bicameral legislation introduced by Representatives Jen Kiggans (R-VA), David Joyce (R-OH), Jack Bergman (R-MI), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Don Bacon (R-NE) in the US House of Representatives and Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) in the US Senate, that would add post-baccalaureate nursing programs to the federal definition of “professional degree.” 

American Nurses Association Applauds Coalition Lawsuit Against Department of Education and Announces Intent to File Lawsuit

WASHINGTON, DC - This morning, a coalition of the attorneys general of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawai‘i, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, as well as the governors of Kentucky and Pennsylvania, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland against the Department of Education over the student loan rule limiting access to student loans for professional degree programs. The American Nurses Association (ANA) applauds and fully supports this effort.

The report reflects the shared professional judgment of nursing leaders across practice, education, research, regulation, industry, and policy on how artificial intelligence is already affecting nursing and the guardrails that must be in place to protect patients, nurses, and the nursing profession.

ANCC 2026 Call for Commission Members

On behalf of the ANCC Board of Directors, the Nominations Committee issues this call for qualified nominees for appointment to seats on the Commission on Accreditation in Nursing Continuing Professional Development (COA-NCPD), Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs (COA-PTP), Commission on Magnet® (COM), and Commission on Pathway to Excellence® (COPE), which serve as the governing bodies for their respective ANCC programs.
